Leavers Assembly

Posted 20/7/2018

Year 6 put on a moving leavers assembly this afternoon with lots of trips down memory lane.

While a slide show of photographs played in the background, the children recounted different memories from their time at Sowerby School including school trips such as Carlton Lodge and East Barnby. Songs were sung, poems recited and tears flowed as the assembly progressed.

During the assembly we had some special visitors! Thirsk Rotary Club came to present the annual Endeavour Award.  This award is presented at the end of every school year to a Year 6 pupil who has shown the most endeavour over the last year more than any other pupil. The winning pupil is gifted a shield to keep at home, while the school receives a larger shield to put on display pride of place. This year we are pleased to announce that Melissa Woods deservedly wins the award!  Well done Melissa!

Also, we were very proud to present another award. This award is the Readman Trophy.  This award is in memory of a past Deputy Head, Mrs. Readman.  She started the award and we have traditionally carried the award on over the years.

The Year 6 pupils work from home making a nature project.  The project can be in any form such as a book, a poster or a model for example.  The winner receives a book token and a beautiful carved wooden owl to keep for a year. Well done Layla Till for your amazing project about crabs!  There was clearly a lot of information in this project as well as a lot of work that went into it. It received the most votes from all the staff. Not forgetting to say a massive well done to all the other pupils for taking part as they too, produced some magnificent quality projects!

It just remains now to wish all our magnificent Year 6 pupils a happy, healthy and successful future in whatever they do. They are all super stars!  We always want to know how they are getting on so don't forget to pop in and keep us posted!
